E, quando ficou sozinha à frente do Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Amélia Rey Colaço ousou levar à cena outros autores menos conhecidos do público nacional. Lembro-me das matinés, ao fim da tarde, onde se se estrearam peças de Apollinaire e Strindberg. Revelou também autores nacionais de destaque como Carlos Selvagem, Alfredo Cortez, José Régio, Bernardo Santareno, além dos ligados ao regime do Estado Novo como Júlio Dantas e Joaquim Paço de Arcos. Mas também inovando com Friedrich Durrenmatt, num grande papel de Amélia Rey Colaço em A Visita da Velha Senhora – ou Arthur Miller, Georges Bernanos, Federico Garcia Lorca, Oscar Wilde, Robert Thomas, Ugo Betti e muitos outros.

And, when she found herself alone in front of Teatro Nacional D. Maria II, Amélia Rey Colaço dared to bring to the stage and the Portuguese audience, less known authors. I recall the matinees, in the late afternoons, where plays by Apollinaire and Strindberg were premiered. These matinees also unveiled prominent national authors such as Carlos Selvagem, Alfredo Cortez, José Régio, Bernardo Santareno, in addition to those linked to the Estado Novo regime, Júlio Régio and Joaquim Paço de Arcos. But also innovating with Friedrich Dürrenmatt, with a great role of Amélia Rey Colaço in The Visit – or Arthur Miller, Georges Bernanos, Federico Garcia Lorca, Oscar Wilde, Robert Thomas, Ugo Betti and many others.
